Gaṅgāṣṭakastotra

Gaṅgāṣṭakastotra is a devotional text with eight verses (8+1) as the name suggests dedicated to the sacred river deity Gaṅgā. The text is attributed to Śaṅkarācārya there are other texts with the same name attributed to different composers but this one is by far the most common one reffered to. The stotra describes the divine purification qualities of the river and narrates a legend of Gangā's journey descending to Earth. This Ms. is written in 11 lines per folio. Title present in colophon (f. 1b). Alternate title Gaṅgāstotra present in marginal abbreviation. There are double red vertical margins present on each side of the folio. Mistakes are blacked out. Gaṅgāstavastotra is a devotional text dedicated to sacred river deity Gaṅgā. It is attributed to Śaṅkarācārya but is most likely is a student or a later period Śaṅkarācārya instead of the original as there are various texts and stotras attributed to the Vedānta scholar. The text consists of 14 to 17 verses depending on the edition. It describes the divine qualities of the deity as well as the river. The Ms. is written in 8 lines per folio. Garbhagītā (Part of Skaṇdapurāṇa)

Garbhagītā is a supplementary text to the epic Mahābhārata. The text is commonly found as part of the Skandapurāṇa and sometimas as a stand alone text. The text is presented as a dialogue between Lord Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna similar to the Bhagavadgītā which is part af the Bhīṣma Parva section of the Mahābhārata. But the content is different. This text gives spiritual insight to conception, pregnancy, development of a foetus and the consciousness of an unborn child. This Ms. contains three parts [1] Gītāsāra (f.1b–4b), [2] Aśvamedha parva 29 verses (f.4b–5b), [3] Additional 8 verses. This Ms. is written in 11 lines per folio. Cover and back page contains title. Garbhopaniṣad is considered a minor upaniṣad according to the Muktikā Upaniṣad. It is categorized under Sāmānya or Vedānta Upaniṣad category. Gārudaharivaṃśa is a supplementary text to the epic Mahābhārata depicting Hindu deity Kṛṣṇa's life events pre and post Mahābhārata war of him and his lineage. It is sometimes treated as a Purāṇic text also, but it is not included either in the 18 Mahāpurāṇas nor the 18 Upapurāṇas. The text is traditionally divided into three Parvas Harivaṃśaparva, Viṣṇuparva, Bhaviṣyaparva. This text should not be confused with the Jaina Harivaṃśapurāṇa. Garuḍopaniṣad

Garuḍopaniṣad is a minor Upaniṣad text which is classified as a Vaiṣṇava Upaniṣad associated with the Atharvaveda according to the Muktikā Upaniṣad. It is a medieval period upaniṣad rather than a vedic one. The text is in praise of Garuda the eagle who is a mount of the supreme Hindu deity Viṣṇu. The text contains verses which are believed to cure and prevent venom from snake. It may be more symbolic like a protective omen than being an actual cure as eagles are one of the few creatures who prey on snakes in the food chain. The text is not exactly matching other editions. This Ms. is written in 15 lines in total. Title present in colophon (f. 1b). According to the penn. cataloguer the Ms. was sold and wrapped together along with Ms. Coll; Item 725 (all accessible on the UPenn. site). Mistakes are blacked out. Gauḍapādabhāṣyaṭīkā

Gauḍapādabhāṣyaṭīkā is a commentary on Māṇḍukya Kārikā (Gauḍapādabhāṣya) which is a commentary on the Māṇḍūkya upaniṣad by pioneer vedānta scholor Gauḍapāda ācārya in four prakaraṇas. This text influenced Adi Śankrācārya's Advaita Vedānta, even the Dvaita (Dualistic) Vedānta and Viśiṣṭādvaita (Qualified non-dualistic) Vedānta which is commonly associated with Vaiṣṇavism from the first two prakaraṇas. The last prakaraṇa gives explaination on the Dvaita concept of Sāṃkhya philosophy and containing Buddhist terminology from Mādhyamika and Yogācāra schools leading to speculation of Buddhist influence. This sub commentary actually focuses more on monism rather than non-dualism. This Ms. is written in 11 lines per folio. Cover page is blank. Title present in colophon (f. 112b) along with the scribe Govinda Brahma who wrote the work in the city of Varāṇasī (Kāśī) along with Ms. Coll. 390; Item 852. Part of the manuscript is in a different scribal hand. Additional folios were added in the beginning and end to supplement the earlier work.
