Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 2)

Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 2) is the 2nd canto of this purāṇic text which contains 10 Adhyāyas (chapters). The text is listed among the18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin which gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇava philosophy. Skandha-2 deals with cosmology like the evolution of the universe and various Avatāras (incarnations) of supreme deity Viṣṇu prior to Kṛṣṇa. It also discuses the eight-limbed path of yoga Aṣṭaṅgayoga as a means of liberation. This Ms. contains Adhyāya-1 (f.1b–5a), Adhyāya-2 (f.5b–10a), Adhyāya-3 (f.10b–12b), Adhyāya-4 (f.12b–14b), Adhyāya-5 (f.15a–18b), Adhyāya-6 (f.18b–23b), Adhyāya-7 (f.23b–31a), Adhyāya-8 (f.31b–33b), Adhyāya-9 (f.33b–37b), Adhyāya-10 (f.38a–43a). This Ms. is written in 9–13 lines per folio. Cover and back page are blank. Title present in the intermediate colophons of each chapter. There are 2 double black vertical margins present on each side of the folio with red in between. The (Pūrna Virāma) full stop style vertical brackets and significant text are in red. Mistakes are covered with yellow or overwritten. Marginal corrections and some lengthy additions are present in a different hand.
