Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 4)

Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 4) is the 4th canto of this purāṇic text which contains 31 chapters. The text is listed among the18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇava philosophy. Skandha 4 contains storied legends of the supreme deity Brahmā, lineage of Svayaṃbhuva Manu and his daughters. It also contains Dakṣa's ritual sacrafice and stories of a few kings. This Ms. contains Adhyāya-1 (f.1b–4b), Adhyāya-2 (f.4b–7a), Adhyāya-3 (f.7a–9b), Adhyāya-4 (f.9b–13a), Adhyāya-5 (f.13a–14b), Adhyāya-6 (f.14b–18a), Adhyāya-7 (f.18a–24a), Adhyāya-8 (f.24a–29b), Adhyāya-9 (f.29b–32b), Adhyāya-10 (f.32b–34a), Adhyāya-11 (f.34a–36a) Adhyāya-12 (f.36a–38b), Adhyāya-13 (f.39a–41a), Adhyāya-14 (f.41a–42b), Adhyāya-15 (f.42b–44a), Adhyāya-16 (f.44a–45b), Adhyāya-17 (f.45b–47b), Adhyāya-18 (f.47b–49a), Adhyāya-19 (f.49b–52a), Adhyāya-20 (f.52a–54b), Adhyāya-21 (f.54b–58b), Adhyāya-22 (f.58b–63a), Adhyāya-23 (f.63a–65a), Adhyāya-24 (f.65a–71a), Adhyāya-25 (f.71a-75a), Adhyāya-26 (f.75a–77a), Adhyāya-27 (f.77a–78b), Adhyāya-28 (f.78b–82b), Adhyāya-29 (f.82b–87a), Adhyāya-30 (f.87a–89a), Adhyāya-31 (f.89a–95a). This Ms. is written in 11-19 lines per folio. Cover and back page are blank. Title present in intermediate colophon present after each chapter. The (Pūrṇavirāma) full stop style vertical brackets, speaker titles, intermediate colophon, significant words and syllables are in red. The scribe has left some of the letters in the colophon of the chapters incomplete probably because of running out of red ink.
