Introduction
About this Manuscript
An anonymous lexicographical work arranged according to thematic groups (varga). The extant portion records synonyms relating to roads and paths, towns and cities, marketplaces, and mountains, and mentions sections entitled Bhūvarga, Pūravarga, and Śailavarga. Words are arranged in a manner characteristic of the Sanskrit lexicographical tradition, especially that represented by the Amarakośa. The manuscript thus appears to be a thesaurus of synonyms intended for grammatical and literary study. On the basis of the arrangement of words into thematic vargas and the style of presentation, the work may tentatively be identified with the Amarakośa, traditionally attributed to Amarasiṃha, although the absence of a colophon precludes a definite identification.
