Mādhavanidāna

Mādhavanidāna (Rogaviniścaya) is a celebrated Ayurvedic treatise attributed to Mādhavakara, dealing with the diagnosis and classification of diseases. The extant portion of the manuscript pertains to the section on Jvaranidāna, particularly the varieties of Sannipātajvara, a fever caused by the simultaneous aggravation of the three doṣas. The text describes the symptoms and prognosis of incurable forms of the disease and enumerates numerous varieties of Sannipātajvara, including Kumbhīpāka, Pūrṇanābha, Pralāpī, Antardāha, Daṇḍapāta, Antaka, Eṇīdāha, Hāridra, Ajaghoṣa, Bhūtahāsa, Saṃśoṣī, Sandhika, Rugdāha, Cittabhrama, and Śītāṅga, together with their etiology and pathogenesis. The manuscript belongs to the branch of Ayurvedic diagnostics (Nidāna) and is concerned with the identification, classification, and prognosis of febrile disorders. The marginal note reading "Mādhavanidāna" supports the identification of the text with the well-known work of Mādhavakara, although the absence of an explicit colophon in the extant portion renders the attribution provisional.
