Āśvalāyanaśrautasūtra (Adhyāya 4, 11-12)

Āśvalāyanaśrautasūtra (Adhyāya 4, 11–12) is a Kalpaśāstra text used to perform various Vedic rituals, rites, ceremonies. It is a Smṛti text based on the Aitareya Brāhmaṇa of the Ṛgveda. It is part of the 6 Vedāṅgas (Imagined body parts of the Vedic texts in the form of a person that is Vedapuruṣa) which are listed as Chanda (Feet of the Vedas), Kalpa (Hands), Jyotiṣa (Eyes), Nirukta (Ears), Śikṣā (Nose), Vyākaraṇa (Mouth). This Ms. contains the Adhyāya (chapter) 4 from (f.1a–9b) of part 1, Adhyāya 11 from (f.1a–7a) and Adhyāya 12 from (f7a–16b) of part 3. Adhyāya 4 contains rituals for the funeral rites and cremation of the deceased person. Adhyāya 11 contains offerings and procedures for Vedic fire rituals. Adhyāya 12 gives instructions for sacraficial rituals like the offerings and the sacrificial site. This Ms. is written in 7–9 lines per folio. Title present in colophon (f. 16b).
