About this Manuscript
This is Śaṃkarācārya’s commentary on the Aitareya Upaniṣad. The manuscript is titled Aitareya-Ātmaṣaṭaka-Bhāṣya and contains only the commentary portion. The main text belongs to Aitareya-Āraṇyaka II and includes chapters four, five, six, and seven, collectively known as the Ātmaṣaṭaka. Chapters four through six of Aitareya-Āraṇyaka II together constitute the Aitareya Upaniṣad, while the seventh chapter consists of a single mantra. Thus, this commentary covers the entire Aitareya Upaniṣad and also includes the seventh chapter of Aitareya-Āraṇyaka II as the śāntimantra. This Ms. is written in 16–17 lines per folio. Cover page contains title. Title present in colophon (f. 9b). There are quadruple black vertical margins present on each side of the folio. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting.
