Āśvalāyanaśākalapadapāṭha

Āśvalāyanaśākalapadapāṭha text contains Ṛgvedic mantras in Aṣṭaka divesion belonging to Āśvalāyana or Śākala śākha traditions which are known to follow this style of division of the text. The Ṛgveda is divided into 8 Aṣṭaka (sections) which are further divided into 8 Adhyāyas and then Vargas. The vedic verses are recited in different styles which resemble patterns according to their śākhā for error free preservation and memorization of the text. In the padapāṭha style of recitation the each word of the vedic verse is seperated and recited individually for grammatic analysis or understanding the contextual meaning. This Ms. has eight parts. It contains Aṣṭaka-1 (f.3a–72b) in part 1 but lacks a begining, Aṣṭaka-2 (f.1b–69a) in part 2, Aṣṭaka-3 (f.1b–63b) in part 3, Aṣṭaka-4 (f.1b–40b) in part 4. This Ms. is written 10–13 lines per folio. Title present in intermediate colophon of each Aṣṭaka (sections) and Adhyāya. The Ms. is dated Śaka 1758 in some places and1759 in others.
