About this Manuscript
Gaṇeśakathā is a text written in a story format. It is centered around the popular legend of the elephant headed Hindu deity Gaṇeśa who is known as the remover of obstacles. The story is connected to Saṃkaṣṭī caturthī fast which is observed on the fourth day of the kṛṣṇa-pakṣa each month to honor the deity. The fast is ended after the sighting of the moon. There are numerous legends where kings and other individuals have used this fast to regain their former glory or remove their obstructions in life. Reciting this story is also said to be auspicious. This Ms. is written in 9–11 lines per folio. Cover page is blank. Alternate title Saṃkaṭacothakathā present in colophon (f. 9b) along with the attributed author Sveta Pāla who is not known. Mistakes are blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins.
