Cikitsā, Bhaiṣajya-kalpanā

An anonymous Ayurvedic formulary dealing with therapeutics and pharmaceutical preparations. The extant portion contains numerous recipes in which the disease is first specified, followed by the ingredients and their quantities expressed in traditional units such as tolā and pāthi. The text describes several preparations including Kasūrādi-taila, Triphalādi-ghṛta for eye diseases, Dhattūrādi-taila for various vāta disorders, Kastūrādi-taila, Bālalavaṅgādi-cūrṇa, Lavaṅgādi-vaṭī, Khaṇḍāmalaka, Śūlanāśinī-vaṭī, Gandhakādi-vaṭī, Methikā-modaka, Viḍaṅgādi-modaka, and Yogarāja-guggulu, prescribed for ailments such as fever, piles, pitta disorders, abdominal pain, indigestion, and vāta diseases. The work represents a practical manual of Ayurvedic therapeutics and pharmaceutical formulations. On the basis of its contents and arrangement, the manuscript may tentatively be identified with a Yogasaṃgraha, the Bhaiṣajyaratnāvalī, or the Yogaratnākara, although the absence of a colophon precludes a definite identification.
