Amarakośa

Amarakośa, also known as the Nāmaliṅgānuśāsana, is a celebrated Sanskrit lexicon traditionally attributed to Amarasiṃha. The extant portion of the manuscript contains the Kālavarga, comprising synonymous terms relating to time and celestial phenomena. The text enumerates various names of the sun, such as Bhānu, Sahasrāṃśu, Tāpana, Savitṛ, and Ravi, and names of the night, including Niśā, Rātri, Tryāmā, Kṣaṇadā, and Kṣapā. The marginal notation “अ.को.” further supports the identification of the work as the Amarakośa. The manuscript belongs to the tradition of Sanskrit lexicography and was intended as a mnemonic compendium of synonyms and grammatical genders.
