Yajñopavītavidhi

This text discusses about the ritual of sacred thread or the Yajnopavita. Upanayana or Yajnopavita is one of the traditional rites of passages that marked the acceptance of a student by a teacher. Then his formal education starts. It is an important and widely discussed ritual in ancient Sanskrit text. This rite of passage symbolizes the leading or drawing towards the self of a child by a teacher. It is a ceremony in which a teacher accepts and draws a child towards knowledge and initiates the second birth that is of the young mind and spirit. The sacred thread (Yajnoopavita) is received by the boy during this ceremony, that he continues wearing across his chest thereafter.
