About this Manuscript
The ninth of 18 parvas, this narrates how Śalya was appointed the fourth commander-in-chief of the Kaurava alliance on the 18th day of the Kurukṣetra War, how he was killed, and Duryodhana mortally wounded in combat. It describes the victorious Pandavas lamenting the enormous toll of the war, and the anger of the three Kaurava survivors.
