Bhāgavatapurāṇa-Aṣṭamaskandha

Bhāgavatapurāṇa-Aṣṭamaskandha is the 8th canto of this purāṇic text which contains 24 Adhyāyas (chapters). The text is listed among the18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin which explains and gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇavism school of Hindu philosophy. Skandha- 8 contains the story of Gajendra the elephant king who is confronted and assaulted by a special crockadile while he was bathing. The story of the Kṣira Sāgara manthana (churning of the ocean) event which led to the excavations of divine beings and treasures obtained by gods and creatures alike. There are also stories of various incarnations (avatāras) of supreme deity Viṣṇu like the Mohini, Vāmana and Matsya. This Ms. contains Adhyāya-1(f.1b–4a), Adhyāya-2 (f.4a–5b), Adhyāya-3 (f.5b–9a), Adhyāya-4 (f.9a–10a), Adhyāya-5 (f.10b–14a), Adhyāya-6 (f.14a–16b), Adhyāya-7 (f.16b–19b), Adhyāya-8 (f.19b–22a), Adhyāya-9 (f.22b–24a), Adhyāya-10 (f.24a–26b), Adhyāya-11 (f.26b–28b), Adhyāya-12 (f.29a–32a), Adhyāya-13 (f.32a–33b), Adhyāya-14 (f.33b–34a), Adhyāya-15 (f.34a–36a), Adhyāya-16 (f.36b–39a), Adhyāya-17 (f.39a–40b), Adhyāya-18 (f.41a–42b), Adhyāya-19 (f.42b–45b), Adhyāya-20 (f.46a–47b), Adhyāya-21 (f.48a–49a), Adhyāya-22 (f.49b–52a), Adhyāya-23 (f.52a–54a), Adhyāya-24 (f.54a–58a). This Ms. is written in 10–13 lines per folio. There are 2 doublle black vertical margins present on eoch side. The (Pūrna Virāma) full stop style vertical brackets are in red. Significant syllables and words are rubbedz with orange powder for highlighting. Mistakes are covered with yellow.
