About this Manuscript
Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 9) is the 9th canto of this purāṇic text which contains 24 Adhyāyas (chapters). The text is listed among the18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin which explains and gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇavism school of Hindu philosophy. Skandha- 9 contains stories and the lineages of kings belonging to Suryavaṃśa (Solor dynasty) and Candravaṃśa (Lunar dynasty). The lineages and genologies of other kings, and great ṛṣis (sages). There is also a story of Paraśurāma the militant incarnation (avatāra) of supreme deity Viṣṇu. This Ms. contains Adhyāya-1(f.1b–3a), Adhyāya-2 (f.3a–4b), Adhyāya-3 (f.4b–6a), Adhyāya-4 (f.6a–10a), Adhyāya-5 (f.10b–11b), Adhyāya-6 (f.12a–14b), Adhyāya-7 (f.15a–16a), Adhyāya-8 (f.16a–18a), Adhyāya-9 (f.18b–20b), Adhyāya-10 (f.20b–24b), Adhyāya-11 (f.24b–26b), Adhyāya-12 (f.26b–27a), Adhyāya-13 (f.27b–28a), Adhyāya-14 (f.28b–31a), Adhyāya-15 (f.31a–33a), Adhyāya-16 (f.33a–35a), Adhyāya-17 (f.35a–35b), Adhyāya-18 (f.36a–38a), Adhyāya-19 (f.38a–39b), Adhyāya-20 (f.39b–42a), Adhyāya-21 (f.42a–43b), Adhyāya-22 (f.44a–46a), Adhyāya-23 (f.46a–47b), Adhyāya-24 (f.47b–50b). This Ms. is written in 14–18 lines per folio. Cover and back page are blank. The (Pūrna Virāma) full stop style vertical brackets are in red. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Marginal corrections are present.
