Gāyatrījapanityavidhi

Gāyatrījapanityavidhi is a Dharmaśāstra text which contains pūjā paddhati (prayer procedure) for mainly the elephant headed deity Gaṇeśa who is a significant in organised pūjās being the first deity to be evoked and the Gāyatrī Mantra deitified as a goddess. The text gives details on the procedure and significance of reciting the Gāyatrī Mantra which is a is a highly revered vedic verse found in the 3rd Mandala; 62nd Sukta; 10th Mantra of the Ṛgveda Saṃhitā. It is dedicated to Savitā (the Sun deity), the ṛṣi associated is Viśvāmitra and the meter of the verse is Gayatri from which the verse is named. Gayatri meter consists of 24 varnas (syllables) and three pādas (stanzas) in total. The Ms. is incomplete there is another part starting in (f. 2b) dealing with Hindu saṃskāras and rituals. This Ms. is written in 11–12 lines per folio. Title present in colophon (f.2b). Mistakes are blacked out.
