About this Manuscript

Caraṇavyūha mentions the fourfold methods for reciting Ṛgveda of all the five śākhas among which Śāṅkhāyana- śākhā comes at the second place. The fourfold methods of recitation, according to Caraṇavyūha are — Saṁhitā pārāyaṇa , Jaṭa pārāyaṇa, Pada pārāyaṇa , Daṇḍa pārāyaṇa. When the Caraṇavyūha prescribes the fourfold methods of all the five Samhitas, it accepts the existence of the Śānkhāyana-Saṁhitā because in the absence of the saṁhitā text the prescription for fourfold recitations would be baseless. In last folio name of the scribe is written but not sure its a name. This Ms. is written in 8 lines per folio. Title present in colophon (f. 5b). There are double black vertical margins on each side of the folio. Mistakes are blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. The Ms. is dated śaka 1694 in (f. 5b).
