About this Manuscript

Advaitānanda is the 13 Adhyāya (chapter) of Pañcadaśī composed by Vidyāraṇya Svāmī also known as Mādhava which has in total 16 chapters. Brahmānanda is the name of the prakaraṇa/section from chapter 11–15th in which Advaitānanda is the third. It is a philosophical treatise on Advaita(non-dualistic) Vedānta school of Hindu philosophy with a commentary running parallel Tātparyabodhinī by Rāmakṛṣṇa. The chapter dvelves into the nature of bliss, obstacles to self realization and the illusionary nature of universe. This Ms. is written in 15–17 lines per folio. Cover and back page both contain title. Alternate commentary title Advaitānandavyākhyā from colophon (f. 13a). There are double red vertical margin lines on each side of the folio. The double Pūrṇa Virāma (full stop) style vertical brackets are in red. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting. The Ms. is dated śaka 1772 based on Ms. Coll. 390; Item 890 (f. 1a) and Item 893 (f. 9a), Scribe is Janārdana Tāhmaṇakara, based on Ms. Coll. 390, Item 903 (f. 3a), once part of the same Ms. text. This Ms. was originally part of a larger Ms. that was divided into parts before its purchase, but sold together with Ms. Coll. 390; Items 890, 891, 892, 893, 894, 895, 896, 897, 898, 899, 900, 902, 903 and 905 according to the penn. cataloguer.
