Introduction
About this Manuscript
The manuscript consists Aitareya Brāhmaṇa Pañcikā 1-8 (chapters 1–8). The Aitareya Brāhmaṇa belongs to the Śākala Śākhā of the Ṛgveda. First Pañcikā is on Iṣti rituals (f. 1a–33b), Second Pañcikā on Sacrifice (f. 34b –75a), Third Pañcikā Śāstrā (f.76a–119b), Forth Pañcikā Atirātra sacrifices, Aśvina Śāstrā, Dvādaśaha Sacrifice (f. 120a – 153b), Fifth Pañcikā on the remaining days of the Dvādaśāha (3rd to 10th day), the Agnihotra, and the duties of the Brāhmaṇa (f. 154 – 200b), Sixth Pañcikā id on Hotṛ, hyms,(f. 239b), Seventh Pañcikā is on the story of Śunaḥśepa, the preliminary ritrs of the Rājasūya acrifice (f. 240a–273b), Eight Pañcikā deals with Śāstrā and stotra's, Mahābhiṣeka (f. 274a –305b). Each Pañcikā starting on new page og the manuscript. Mistakes covered over in yellow or blacked out; some corrections and additions in margins; significant syllables, words, or phrases highlighted in red throughout; vertical margins marked with triple red line; borders of folios treated with yellow turmeric powder to protect the manuscript from insect damage.; Scribe is possibly Gālambhaṭṭa Kāle as noted at the end of one section of the text (Part 6, f. 39); however, Kāle is primarily named throughout as a former owner, so this single instance may simply be a scribal error using the instrumental instead of genitive case, and the word likhitaṃ (was written/scribed) typically accompanying the instrumental case is lacking. However the other named owner of Part 3, Janārdana Kāle, is the scribe of another manuscript of the Aitareyabrāhmaṇa in the collection (University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Coll. 390, Item 85). This may indicate a family of owners/scribes of this particular group of texts.; In Sanskrit (Devanāgarī)
