Introduction
About this Manuscript
Pañcadāna Vidhi (Pañjā Dāna Vidhi) is the ritual text for the cultural festival of Pañcadāna, celebrated during the month of Guṇlā by the Newar Buddhist community. On the day of Pañcadāna, known as Pañjrā in Nepalbhasha, donations of five different types of grains are offered to Buddha Dīpaṅkara, Śākyamuni, the Bodhisattvas, and the initiated Vajrācāryas and Śākyas. The images of Dīpaṅkara are displayed in the monasteries. This manuscript provides elaborate instructions on the establishment of the Dānaśālā, the rituals to be carried out for Pañcadāna, and the necessary offerings and ritual elements. The festival is still celebrated with enthusiasm by the Newar Buddhist community.
