Kāraṇḍavyūha Sutra

The manuscript has wooden plain cover and the folios filled with beautiful and calculated letters. The Kāraṇḍavyūha Sūtra is an influential Mahāyāna Buddhist scripture centered on Avalokiteśvara as the cosmic embodiment of compassion. The extant Sanskrit text is divided into two parts comprising 24 chapters. It describes Avalokiteśvara’s boundless virtues, his salvific activities across different realms, the emanation of various deities from his body, and the universal scope of his compassion. This particular text is considered the cult of Avalokiteśvara and profoundly influenced Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna traditions in Nepal and other Mahayana Countries. This manuscript is written during the reign of King Ranabahadur Shah.
