About this Manuscript

The manuscript contains the Vaidyajīvana, an Ayurvedic medical treatise composed by Lolimbarāja, who is identified in the colophons as the son of Divākara (Divākarasūnu). The work is divided into several vilāsas (chapters), dealing with the treatment of fever (jvara), diarrhoea and digestive disorders (atisāra and grahaṇī), blood disorders, yakṣmā (consumption), and other medical conditions. The manuscript preserves a scribal colophon recording Newari Saṃvat 1010=1889 C.E. (Bhādra month) and names Siddhimān as the scribe. A table of contents is provided at the end of the manuscript, indicating a systematic arrangement of therapeutic topics. The text belongs to the tradition of Ayurvedic therapeutics and medical practice and serves as a compendium of medicinal formulations and treatments for a variety of diseases.
