Gaṇeśapurāṇa (Upāsanā Khaṇḍa; Adhyāya 1-8)

Gaṇeśapurāṇa is a purāṇic text which is included in the 18 Upapurāṇas (minor purāṇic texts). The text is primarily dedicated to the worship of Hindu elephant-headed deity Gaṇeśa. It consists of two parts Upāsanā Khaṇḍa and Krīdā Khaṇḍa. This Ms. contains the Upāsanā Khaṇḍa in which they are 92 Adhyāyas but only 8 are present in this manuscript. Adhyāya-1 (f.1b–3a), Adhyāya-2 (f.3a–4a), Adhyāya-3 (f.4a–6a), Adhyāya-4 (f.6a–7b), Adhyāya-5 (f.7b–9b), Adhyāya-6 (f.9b–11a), Adhyāya-7 (f.11a–13a), Adhyāya-8 (f.13a–14b). The opening chapters deal with the mythology surrounding a king named Somakānta who is stricken with leprosy and his discourse with the sage Bhṛgu. This Ms. is written in 11 lines per folio. Cover page contains title. Title present in colophon (f. 14b). There are triple red vertical margins present on each side of the folio. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some red corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and numerals are rubbed with orange powder for highlighting. Double pūrna virāma style full stop brackets are in red.
