Gāyatrībhāṣya

Gāyatrībhāṣya is a commintary on the Gāyatrī mantra by Sāyaṇa who is known for his commentary on the vedic texts known as Vedārtha-prakāśa. The Gāyatrī mantra is a highly revered vedic verse found in the 3rd Mandala; 62nd Sukta; 10th Mantra of the Ṛgveda Saṃhitā. It is dedicated to Savitā (the Sun deity), the ṛṣi associated is Viśvāmitra and the meter of the verse is Gayatri from which the verse is named. Gayatri meter consists of 24 varnas (syllables) and three pādas (stanzas) in total. The commentary in the text references the Aitareyāraṇyaka which is part of the later vedic cannon. It contains the proper ritualistic way to reciting the which includes prefixing it with the sacred syllable Oṃ and the three mahavyahrtis Oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ before the mantra. This Ms. is written in 8 lines per folio. Title present in the colophon (f. 2b). Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins.
