About this Manuscript

Garbhopaniṣad is considered a minor upaniṣad according to the Muktikā Upaniṣad. It is categorized under Sāmānya or Vedānta Upaniṣad category. It is considered to be associated with the Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda or the Atharvaveda. The text is traditionally attributed to the sage Pippalāḍa. It contains meta-scientific details of human embryo development and the physiology of growth in the human fetus. The text in the Ms. is not matching the popular editions available in print. However the manuscripts for Garbhopaniṣad are known to be inconsistant because of lack of surviving manuscripts available. This Ms. is written in 11–13 lines per folio. Title present in colophon (f. 4b). There are double red vertical margins present on each side of the folio. Title from colophon (f. 4b). Mistakes are blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting.
