Ghaṇṭāpatha (Sarga 15-16; Kirātārjunīya commentary)

Ghaṇṭāpatha (Sarga 15–16) is a commentary by Mallinātha on the work Kirātārjunīya composed by Bhāravi. The mahākāvya is based on the epic Mahābhārata. It contains 18 Sargas (cantos). In the plot Arjuna is doing pennance to lord Śiva to recieve the celestial weapon Pāśupatāstra. He encounters a Kirāta (wild mountain man). A bow and arrow skirmish takes between them over the ownership of a hunted wild boar. In the climax of the battle with the Kirāta and his clan, Arjuna realizes that the Kirāta is actually Lord Śiva in disguise. He surrenders in devotion and submission. The Ms. only contains the commentary not the main text. Sarga 15 from (f.1a–12a), sarga 16 from (f.12a–21b) till commentary of verse 59 incomplete though. This Ms. is written in 9–10 lines per folio. Title present in internal colophon (f. 12a). Cover page contains chapter division. There are double black vertical margins present on each side of the folio. Mistakes are blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting.
