Ghaṇṭāpatha (Sarga 2, 4-8; Kirātārjunīya commentary)

Ghaṇṭāpatha is a commentary by Mallinātha on the mahākāvya Kirātārjunīya composed by Bhāravi. The mahākāvya is based on the epic Mahābhārata. It contains 18 Sargas (cantos). In the plot Arjuna is doing pennance to lord Śiva to recieve the celestial weapon Pāśupatāstra. He encounters a Kirāta (wild mountain man). A bow and arrow skirmish takes in between them over the ownership of a hunted wild boar. The Kirāta is actually Lord Śiva in disguise testing Arjuna. The Ms. lacks a beginning . It contains sarga 2 (f.12a–21a). Sarga 4 from the commentary of verse 8 in (20b), from verse 10 to the end of the sarga (f.31b–35a). Sarga 5 (f.35a–41b), Sarga 6 (f.41b–45b), Sarga 7 (f.46a–49a), Sarga 8 (f.49a–50a) it is incomplete by the scribe. This Ms. is written in 12–15 lines per folio. Title present in colophon (f. 50a). There are double black vertical margins present on each side of the folio. Some of the folios have been repaired by attaching to a new sheet and taping. Mistakes are blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting.
