Introduction
About this Manuscript
The manuscript is an Ayurvedic medical treatise devoted primarily to therapeutics (cikitsā). The extant chapter headings reveal a systematic arrangement of diseases and their treatments, including fever (jvara), diarrhoea (atisāra), digestive disorders (grahaṇī, agnimāndya, and ajīrṇa), haemorrhoids (arśas), parasitic diseases (kṛmi), anaemia and jaundice (pāṇḍu, kāmalā, halīmaka), haemorrhagic disorders (raktapitta), tuberculosis (rājayakṣmā), chest injuries and wasting diseases (uraḥkṣata-kṣīṇa), cough (kāsa), respiratory disorders, and anorexia (arocaka). The work appears to provide therapeutic prescriptions and medical guidance for a wide range of ailments and belongs to the classical Ayurvedic tradition. The manuscript is incomplete, beginning with folio 7 and continuing up to folio 73. Several folios from both the beginning and the end of the work are missing. Furthermore, in between 7-73 folio 41 is missing and folio 45 is repeated. Despite these losses and irregularities, the surviving portion preserves a substantial part of the therapeutic text.
