About this Manuscript
Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 11; Adhyāya 1–20) is the 11th canto of this purāṇic text which contains 31 chapters. The text is listed among the18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin which explains and gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇavism school of Hindu philosophy. Skandha 11 contains Kṛṣṇa's final message before the end of his Yaduvaṃśa dynasty to Uddhava on the importance of devotion to the supreme lord in attaining liberation by self realization of the nature of reality. This Ms. contains only 20 Adhyāyas from Skandha-11. Adhyāya-1 (f.1b–4b), Adhyāya-2 (f.4b–10b), Adhyāya-3 (f.10b–18b), Adhyāya-4 (f.18b–22a), Adhyāya-5 (f.22a–28a), Adhyāya-6 (f.29b–32b), Adhyāya-7(f.33a–39a), Adhyāya-8 (f.40b–42a), Adhyāya-9 (f.42a–46a), Adhyāya-10 (f.46a–50b), Adhyāya-11 (f.51a–57a), Adhyāya-12 (f.57b–60a), Adhyāya-13 (f.60a–65a), Adhyāya-14 (f.65b–69b), Adhyāya-15 (f.70a–73a), Adhyāya-16 (f.73b–77a), Adhyāya-17 (f.77b–81b), Adhyāya-18 (f.81b–85a), Adhyāya-19(f.85a–89b), Adhyāya-20 from (f.89b–95b). The scribe after folio 85 has re-started the page numbering from one. This Ms. is written in 12–19 lines per folio. Cover page is blank. Title present in intermediate colophon after every chapter. The (Pūrṇavirāma) full stop style vertical brackets and colophon are in red. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blanked out. There are a few marginal corrections. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting.
