About this Manuscript

Gāyatrīrāmāyaṇastotra is a selection of 24 verses from the Vālmīki's epic Rāmāyaṇa which consists of 24,000 verses divided in 7 kāṇḍas and 500 sargas. Each of the verses in the Ms. is from a different kāṇḍa and sarga as it turns out after every 1000 verses the starting letter of each verse is the letter from the Gāyatrī Mantra which is a highly revered vedic verse found in the 3rd Mandala; 62nd Sukta; 10th Mantra of the Ṛgveda Saṃhitā. It is dedicated to Savitā (the Sun deity), the ṛṣi associated is Viśvāmitra and the meter of the verse is Gayatri from which the verse is named. Gayatri meter consists of 24 varnas (syllables) and three pādas (stanzas) in total. This Ms. is written in 8 lines per folio. Title present in colophon (f. 3a) along with the date. Mistakes are blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins.
