The manuscript is identified in the colophon as Upoṣaṭadevaputra-mantra-sādhana-kathā. The opening invocation: Oṃ namo ratnatrayāya. Oṃ namo gurubhyo namaḥ. and the concluding colophon: Iti śrī Upoṣaṭadevaputra-mantra-sādhana-kathā clearly indicate that the text belongs to the Buddhist religious tradition, particularly the Mahāyāna–Vajrayāna milieu where homage to the Three Jewels (Ratnatraya) and the spiritual preceptor (guru) forms an essential part of ritual practice.
