Agniṣṭomamaitrāvaruṇaprayoga

Agniṣṭomamaitrāvaruṇaprayoga is a manual for performing Vedic Agniṣṭoma sacrificial ritual which involves offering of soma to various deities. Maitrāvaruṇa hotṛ priests. This text is particularly for a Maitrāvaruṇa hotṛ priest who is tasked with reciting hymns and mantras for Vedic deities Mitra and Varuṇa. They are multiple priests involved during the ritual. Agniṣṭoma is considered as a foundation for other soma rituals. The ritual is performed for spiritual and material well-being. This Ms. is written in 9 lines per folio. Cover and back page contain title. Titli present in the begining (f. 1b). There are double red vertical margins on each side of the folio. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting. The Ms. is dated saṃvat 1857 (1800) śake 1722 (1800) in the cyclical year named Prajāpati, in the dark half of the month of Caitra (March-April), the Aṣṭamī day, on Induvāsara (Monday) in (f. 20a) along with scribe Śivarāma Bhaṭṭaḍhekara.
