About this Manuscript

Gauḍapādabhāṣyaṭīkā is a commentary on Māṇḍukya Kārikā (Gauḍapādabhāṣya) which is a commentary on the Māṇḍūkya upaniṣad by pioneer vedānta scholor Gauḍapāda ācārya in four prakaraṇas. This text influenced Adi Śankrācārya's Advaita Vedānta, even the Dvaita (Dualistic) Vedānta and Viśiṣṭādvaita (Qualified non-dualistic) Vedānta which is commonly associated with Vaiṣṇavism from the first two prakaraṇas. The last prakaraṇa gives explaination on the Dvaita concept of Sāṃkhya philosophy and containing Buddhist terminology from Mādhyamika and Yogācāra schools leading to speculation of Buddhist influence. This sub commentary actually focuses more on monism rather than non-dualism. This Ms. is written in 11 lines per folio. Cover page is blank. Title present in colophon (f. 112b) along with the scribe Govinda Brahma who wrote the work in the city of Varāṇasī (Kāśī) along with Ms. Coll. 390; Item 852. Part of the manuscript is in a different scribal hand. Additional folios were added in the beginning and end to supplement the earlier work. Alternate title Māṇḍūkyagauḍapādīyabhāṣyaṭīkā present in marginal abbreviations. Mistakes covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting.
