About this Manuscript

Bṛhadāraṇyakopaniṣad belongs to the Śukla Yajurveda. Adhyāyas 1–2, called the Madhukāṇḍa (“Honey Section”) getting its name from the final segment. This manuscript contains first Adhyāya. It contains six brāhmaṇa (six sections). It convays mainly teaching of advaita philosophy and nature of upadeśa. This Adhyāya (chapters) of the Madhukāṇḍa deals with the vedic rites, pravargya, which forms a part of the ritualistic section (karma-kāṇḍa) of the Veda. The first section starts with meditation on the horse-sacrifice then the second section explains process of creation. The first adhyāya (chapter) consists creation and its cause, three aspects of the universe. The second Adhyāya consists relative aspects of brahman, description of the prana,two forms of brahman, yajnavalkya and Maitreyi, the lineage of teachers . The third Adhyāya Yajnavalkyakanda (“Yajnavalkya Section”), in which this sage plays the central role, its questions and answers between yajnavalkya and Asvala, Ārtabhāga , Bhujyu, Uṣasta, Kahola, Gārgī, Uddālaka. This manuscript is written in 10–12 lines per folio. Title present in marginal abbreviations. Mistakes are blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins.
