The Catalan and Spanish Sanskrit Dictionaries: Updating Sanskrit Lexicography

Sanskrit lexicography has changed little since its last major overhaul more than a century ago. This talk looks at the Sanskrit-Catalan and Sanskrit-Spanish dictionaries as one step toward closing that gap, and reflects on what a modern update to Sanskrit lexicography needs to account for.

About the speaker: Òscar Pujol trained in Sanskrit at Banaras Hindu University, completing a PhD edition of the Samarthapāda of the Tantrapradīpa. He has since published a Sanskrit-Catalan dictionary (2005) and a 64,000-word Sanskrit-Spanish dictionary (2019) drawing on both contemporary and traditional Indian etymological scholarship, helped establish Casa Asia in Barcelona in 2002, and founded the Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi in 2007.
