Description
Rugviniścaya (Mādhavanidāna) is a celebrated Ayurvedic treatise on pathology and diagnosis composed by Mādhavakara, son of Indukara. The extant portion contains sections dealing with diseases of the female reproductive system, disorders of the uterus, difficult labour (mūḍhagarbha), puerperal diseases, diseases of women and children, and various kinds of poisoning, including vegetable, milk, metallic, traumatic, humoral and snake poisons. The work systematically describes the causes and diagnostic features of diseases and serves as an authoritative manual of Ayurvedic nosology and diagnosis. The colophon expressly attributes the work to Mādhava, son of Indukara, and refers to the treatise as Rugviniścaya.
