Description

The manuscript is titled as Karkaṭīvrata and is sourced from the Skanda Purāṇa. It outlines the procedure of the vrata (ritual ) along with its associated kathā (narrative). The vrata kathā is presented in the form of a dialogue between the Sūta and the Ṛṣis. The Karkaṭīvrata primarily involves the worship of the deities Śiva and Pārvatī. Title is taken from incipit (f. 1a); alternate title Karkaṭīvratakathā from colophon (f. 9b). The manuscript is written in 9–11 lines per leaf.; 9 leaves are foliated 1–9, lower right verso. Mistakes are blacked out; some corrections and additions in margins. It is written on European paper with watermarks. The same scribe and paper were also used for Item 1447, Item 1453, Item 1455, Item 1456, and Item 1459, and may have originally been from the same manuscript as one or more of these items.
