Description

An anonymous Ayurvedic formulary dealing with pharmaceutical preparations and therapeutics. The extant portion records numerous medicinal recipes in which the disease is first specified, followed by the ingredients and their quantities expressed in traditional units such as tolā. Preparations such as Bilvāṣṭaka-cūrṇa for diarrhoea and grahaṇī disorders, Jyeṣṭhavaratrādi-cūrṇa for intermittent fever, Tāmra-suvarṇa-taila for vāta disorders, Tribhuvanavijayādi-cūrṇa, Mahāvāsādi-cūrṇa, Vāstuvijādi-cūrṇa for hyperacidity, Kalatālīsādi-cūrṇa for paediatric ailments, Sārasvatī-cūrṇa, and Hiṅgvādi-cūrṇa are described along with their constituent drugs and proportions. The work represents a practical handbook of Ayurvedic therapeutics and pharmaceutical preparations. On the basis of its contents and arrangement, the manuscript may tentatively be identified with a Yogasaṃgraha, the Bhaiṣajyaratnāvalī, or the Yogaratnākara, although a definite identification is not possible in the absence of a colophon.
