Description

Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 2) is the 2nd canto of this purāṇic text which contains 10 Adhyāyas (chapters). The text is listed among the18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin which gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇava philosophy. Skandha-2 deals with cosmology like the evolution of the universe and various Avatāras (incarnations) of supreme deity Viṣṇu prior to Kṛṣṇa. It also discuses the eight-limbed path of yoga Aṣṭaṅgayoga as a means of liberation. This Ms. contains Adhyāya-1 (f.1b–4b), Adhyāya-2 (f.4b–9b), Adhyāya-3 (f.9b–12a), Adhyāya-4 (f.12a–14a), Adhyāya-5 (f.14b–18a), Adhyāya-6 (f.18a–22a), Adhyāya-7 (f.22a–29a), Adhyāya-8 (f.29b–31b), Adhyāya-9 (f.31b–35b), Adhyāya-10 (f.35b–40b). This Ms. is written in 14–19 lines per folio. Cover and back page are blank. Title present in the intermediate colophon of each chapter. Mistakes are covered with yellow. The (Pūrna Virāma) full stop style vertical brackets are in red. (f.24b & 25a) have been written upside-down with respect to the other folios.
