Description
Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 12) is the 12th canto of this purāṇic text which contains 13 Adhyāyas (chapters). The text is listed among the18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin which gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇava school philosophy. Skandha-12 describes the cyclical nature of time including prophecies about the future like the Kali Yuga (the current age) which will lead to fall of civilization. The text proclaims bhakti as the most effective path to spiritual realization in the current age. This Ms. contains Adhyāya-1(f.1b–4a), Adhyāya-2 (f.4a–7a), Adhyāya-3 (f.7a–10a), Adhyāya-4 (f.10a–14a), Adhyāya-5 (f.14a–15b), Adhyāya-6 (f.15b–22a), Adhyāya-7 (f.22a–24a), Adhyāya-8 (f.24a–27b), Adhyāya-9 (f.27b–30a), Adhyāya-10 (f.30a–32b), Adhyāya-11 (f.32b–36b), Adhyāya-12 (f.-36b–40b), Adhyāya-13 (f.40b–42b). This Ms. is written in 12–19 lines per folio. Cover and back page is blank. The (Pūrna Virāma) full stop style vertical brackets and some syllables in the last page are in red. Writing continues into the right margin on a few folios.
