Description
Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Skandha 10; Pūrvārdha) is the 1st part of 2 from the 10th canto of this purāṇic text. Pūrvārdha contains 49 Adhyāyas (chapters). The text is listed among the 18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin which gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇava school philosophy. Skandha 10; Pūrvārdha contains the birth of Kṛṣṇa an avatāra (incarnate) of Viṣṇu. His early childhood years in Gokula slaying various demons sent by Kaṃsa and other miraculous exploits like lifting of the Govardhana hill to protect the residents of Vrindāvana from the wrath of deity Indra. His playful interactions with the gopis (cattle women) and other residents of Vrindavana. This Ms. is written in 11–18 lines per folio. Cover and back page are blank. Mistakes are covered with yellow. Marginal corrections are present. The (Pūrna Virāma) full stop style vertical brackets are in red.
