Description

Bhāgavatamahāpurāṇa-Saptamaskandha is the 7th Canto of this purāṇic text which contains 15 Adhyāyas (chapters). The text is listed among the18 Mahāpurāṇas. This Ms. contains a commentary Bhāgavatabhāvārthadīpikā by Śrīdharasvāmin which gives good clarity on the complex philosophy and devotional themes present in the text. The text primarily belongs to the Vaiṣṇava philosophy. Skandha-7 contains the story of a tyranical king Hiraṇyakaśipu who wants to be immortal and invincible. He partly succeeds in this by attaining boons by doing penences Prahlāda his son is a devotee of the supreme deity Viṣṇu who his father dispises very much. His father tries to kill him but is eventually killed by Narsiṃha avatāra (incarnation) of Viṣṇu wha is part lion part man. This Ms. contains Adhyāya-1 (f.1b–12a), Adhyāya-2 (f.12a–15a), Adhyāya-3 (f.15b–18b), Adhyāya-4 (f.19a–24a), Adhyāya-5 (f.24a–27b), Adhyāya-6 (f.28a-33a), Adhyāya-7 (f.33a), Adhyāya-8 (f.33a–40a), Adhyāya-9 (f.40b–50a), Adhyāya-10 (f.50a–55a), Adhyāya-11 (f.55a–58a), Adhyāya-12 (f.58a–60b), Adhyāya-13 (f.60b–63b), Adhyāya-14 (f.64a–66b), Adhyāya-15 (f.66b–73a). This Ms. is written in 8-17 lines per folio. Cover and back page contain title. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting.
