Description
An Advaita philosophical text composed in 68 ślokas in Anuṣṭubha metre by Śaṃkarācārya, this work explores jñānayoga and the knowledge of the Self. Śaṃkarācārya outlines the qualities of a person eligible to follow the path of self-realization. It also discusses the nature of the world (saṃsāra), māyā, ātman, Brahman (Universal Consciousness), and liberation. The influence of the Upaniṣads is especially prominent in this work. This Ms. is written in 10–12 lines per folio. Back page contains title. Title also present in colophon (f. 4a). Mistakes are covered with yellow or crossed out. Some corrections and addition in the margins. Some folios treated with yellow turmeric powder. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting. The Ms. is dated śaka 17 and saṃvat 18 with only the century number indicated, which establishes a date range from 1778-1842.
