Caryāgīta Saṁgraha

EAP1296/2/225 Language : Sanskrit Scripts : Newari


This has salutation songs dedicated to Buddhist deities. These are called Caryāgīta, and are sung in accompaniment to ritual dances.

This is a Mahāyāna Buddhist text. It is written in an exercise book, so is comparatively recent."

MS Persian 53 Language : Persian Scripts : Nasta'līq


This text is a Persian translation of Bṛhatsaṃhitā of Varāhamihira on astrology. Varāhamihira’s work 104 chapters whether this text has 96. Eight chapters were omitted as diverging from the teachings of Islam.

This 18th-century text is arranged alphabetically, and mentions the origin of the medicine (e.g., Indian, Greek, Persian traditions) .

MS Persian 373 Language : Persian Scripts : Nasta'līq with elements of Shikastah


A 17th-century text on the seven heavens, seven planets, constellations, zodiac signs, love charms, spells for victory in war, and a section on philosophy and mathematics of which only a small part survives. Writrten on fine Oriental paper,it includes miniature-paintings.




Kitab-i viladat-i Iskandar

MS Persian 474 Language : Persian Scripts : Naskh script.


The personal horoscope of Iskandar Sultan, ruler of Fars, dated AH 813/1411 CE, it has a painting of planetary positions at the time of his birth (f. 18 and 19) and other exquisite examples of the Shiraz school of art. It was compiled by 'Imad al-Munajjim, possibly the grandfather of Ulugh Beg’s court astronomer, Jamshld al-Kashi (Fatemeh Keshavarz 1984), to whom the calligraphy is also ascribed.




Jām-i gītī 'numā

MS Persian 495 Language : Persian Scripts : Nastaliq with elements of Naskh


A treatise on philosophy (f.1 damaged notes in Latin); dated 1715, copied for Beg’zadah, by Muhammad Husayn Isfahani. Contains the fatihah and the first 26 maqsads.




Haṭhapradīpa

MS Sanskrit O.36 Language : Sanskrit Scripts : Devnāgarī


A manuscript on yoga, and the practice of āsanas, prāṇāyāma, mudrā, bandha and ṣaṭkarma.




Lagnacandrikā

MS Sanskrit alpha 721 Language : Sanskrit Scripts : Devnāgarī


The manuscript is on Jyotiṣa. There are references to phala, lagna, rāśi etc.




MS Sanskrit alpha 978 Language : Sanskrit Scripts : Devnāgarī


A collection of brief hymns addressed to Hindu deities and ‘ekaśloki’ summaries of the Rāmāyaṇa and Mahābhārata. Texts are in Sanskrit, each prefigured by an illustration and a title page with the Sanskrit title in Farsi script.
